My brother died last night

i found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.

it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.

there were six of us, now only four.

It is not just the gays, it is also the women and the children. Why can't the JWS treat all humans as their EQUALS?

How about -- Love one another. I think that the Bible does state that somewhere, if I am not mistaken in multiple places.

This religion is so stuck in the dark ages it is pathetic and has so many double standards. R&F are to give up all material pocessions while the GB and their helpers parade around in their expensive suits and gold watches and rings. Live the simple life while they live in luxury in a resort in upstate NY.

And if you think what what comes out of those GB mouths is spiritual well I would recommend you visit a real church.

To answer your question, I was never a JW. If you want to know how I ended up on this forum you can read all about the married "Elder" I dated for 5 years in my intro.

I have never been in a KH, trust me that would be rather explosive. No one tells this Italian lady what she can and cannot do!

And they could appoint women elders, or they could scrap the archaic idea that wives should be in subjection to husbands.

Yes, they most definitely could it is the 21st century other religions have done just that. My best girlfriend is the Elder of Finance. Her husband treats her as an equal in their marriage.

there was a time when as a family, we'd host a bbq in our large back garden.

we'd have a small gazebo, tables and chairs.

the reggae music would be pumping out but not too loud.

Never a JW but life can throw us some mighty tuff curve balls. I come from a family of three, mom was a high functioning alcoholic, sister a prescription drug addict and I married a man who was verbally abusive who suffered a stroke when I was pregnant with my second child.

I was always picking up the pieces after my mother, sister and husband while raising two children.

It is one day at a time, I still believe in God so I did a lot of praying. I hit rock bottom financially at one point when he had his stroke and with a toddler and new baby I was forced to triple my business in rapid speed. The best thing is to make a plan, think positive, kick the WT butt, and make the best of the rest of your life prove them wrong.

BTW, my mother and sister will tell anyone and everyone after all I have done for them and all the money I have given them that I am a liar and a thief. This has been said to my face to lawyers and bank managers, I just consider the source. I am bonded, insured and licensed to serve my clients so these same people know these statements are lies.

Very excellent post. I was never a JW but I believe you are 100% correct. I firmly believe they should post a sign that says straight MEN only, NO kids, women, or gays.

At least here and in most parts of the world blacks won the right to be treated as equals, then women won the right to be treated as equals, gays are no different and when you beat up a child by spanking them you are a bully. I never touched my children to correct their behavior they are very polite young adults .They are now 30 and 24. IMHO These JW men are nothing but a bunch of bullies.

I will give you an example my daughter is tiny but she knows right from wrong. When she was in high school, little as she was not even 5' less then 100 pounds watched the huge captain of the football team try to butt his way into the cafeteria line in front of a special needs child saying something that was not nice. She put him in his place and told him to go to the end of the line where he belonged calling the assistant principal over.

There has been gay marriages peformed in churches in Washington DC for well over 30 years. There were main stream churches for the gay community. But this is a city that has had a very open gay population for well over 50 years. The reason I know is I turn 65 this week and grew up in the gay community in Washington

I have attempted to stay out of this debate but I cannot! The WT is homophobic but the very SAD part is they are teaching this to CHILDREN and thus doing damage to children. You say they are not homophobic the cartoon, this article, tight pants rant and Herd's speech about the size of a women's brain and if she speaks like a man.

Although I am not a lesbian, I have been involved in the gay community probably longer then most of you have been on this earth. I had far more wonderful gay dads then one little girl deserved but they saved me from my abusive mom. When I went in business for myself, my clients were from the gay community.

When the JWS say oh you can change and become straight that is a bunch of hogwash.

LERKING ELDERS: The cartoon at the end has the child saying to the mom I can tell my friend about paradise Yada yada. Let me tell you if that occurs to one of my grandchildren that little one will learn all about false predictions. Don't be preaching to my under age grandchildren without my consent. This one grandparent who will be front and center in the office at school, then KH and you ELDERS will not know what the hell just hit you! Don't be preaching your crap to my kids.

Were you beaten as a child?

i've been confronting my mother with her dubious parenting skills (abuse) of me as a child.

particularly the beatings i would get with the wooden spoon.

not a light smack but hitting me as hard as she could for as long as she could.

Never a JW nor any of my family. My heart goes out to each of you for all the abuse that you suffered. My mother was an alcoholic she beat me with anything that was close at hand and cussed me out. By the age of 12 I began playing a different game, I came home when I wanted to, I did what I wanted, I started working and supported myself. She started charging me rent and refused to buy me any clothes. I only came home when I knew she had company that would protect me or she was to drunk to care that I was there. I made sure to clean the house and do all the laundry for her on the weekends while she was at work. We lived like that till I graduated from college. If she attempted to throw a punch, she knew by then I would punch her back.

The long term effects of how I was raised is that I still have a very hard time trusting people.

No, I never hit my children. I could simply look across the room at them catch a glance we would smile at one another and corrective measures would instantly take place. They are two very fine young adults. I have had many compliments that as a single parent I did an outstanding job with my kids, all I can say is I did the opposite of what my mother did and prayed a lot.
